Stephens passes West Hall past East Jackson

OAKWOOD -- Shunquez Stephens connected with Rodney Gibson on a 31-yard touchdown pass with 1:29 left in the game to propel West Hall to a thrilling 28-27 come-from-behind win over East Jackson Friday night.

Stephens passed for 312 yards and four TDs on 20-of-37 passing for the game.

Gibson caught 12 passes for 192 yards and three scores on the Spartans (1-0) rallied from two second half deficits to get the win.

Stephens connected with Terrell Penland for the other score. Penland finished with four catches for 68 yards.

West Hall trailed 14-7 early in the game but rallied to tie the game by halftime. The Spartans had a chance to take the early lead late in the first half but were stopped at the 1-yard line as time ran out in the second quarter.

For East Jackson (0-1) Zach Gilbert had 21 carries for 180 yardsand three catches for 26 yards to lead the offense. Robbie King had 15 carries for 65 yards and scored three TDs.
