DUNWOODY -- For one quarter the East Hall girls basketball team had everything going its way in its Class AAA second round state playoff game against Dunwoody.
Unfortunately, Dunwoody owned the other three quarters as the Lady Wildcats battled back from a 14-point deficit to knock off the Lady Vikings 46-43 Tuesday night.
East Hall (22-9) led 20-6 after the first quarter and coach Joey Rider said they felt they were right where they needed to be to advance to the third round.
"(Dunwoody) missed some shots and we were able to get our transition game going and we hit a couple of 3-pointers. We played extremely well early on," Rider said. "But then Dunwoody started hitting some shots and their defense just kind of clamped down on us."
The Lady Vikings managed to lead 23-20 at halftime despite being held to just three second quarter points but was outscored 12-8 in the third quarter as Dunwoody took control of the game.
Rider said despite the season-ending loss it was a satisfying season.
"Obviously we're disappointed now because we came in expecting to win," he said. "But we feel it was a real good year. The girls improved throughout the year and gave it everything they had."
Freshman Jasmine Jenkins followed her outstanding first round game against Elbert County with another solid performance leading East Hall with 21 points. Hannah Strickland and Symone Hampton, who battled foul trouble, each finished with six points for the Lady Vikings.
Madeline Teissler led Dunwoody (21-8) with 14 points. Kristin Nash had 11 points for the Lady Wildcats.
