DACULA -- Daniel David tossed three touchdown passes and rushed for one more to lead Class AAAAAA ninth-ranked Mill Creek to a 41-28 win over Dacula Friday night in both teams' season openers.
The Hawks (1-0) never trailed as David connected with Devozea Felton on a 29-yard TD pass and then Joseph Hull on a 14-yard strike for a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Falcons (0-1) cut the lead to 14-6 early in the second quarter but David scored on a 15-yard run and then connected with Felton on a 27-yard TD pass for a 28-6 lead. Dacula would trim the lead to 28-14 by halftime and then closed to within 28-20 early in the third quarter.
But the Hawks would put the game away on a 1-yard scoring run by Carter Governale to close out the third quarter and then a 6-yard TD run by Johnathan Hawkins early in the fourth for a 41-20 lead.
David finished with 161 yards passing and 65 yards rushing to pace the Hawks. Felton added 77 yards rushing and 59 receiving for Mill Creek.
Mill Creek will play host to Brookwood next week.
