FLOWERY BRANCH -- Turnovers and penalties proved costly for Flowery Branch Friday night as the Falcons fell 35-21 to West Forsyth at home.
Flowery Branch (0-2) had three interceptions and one fumble as the Wolverines (1-1) rallied from an early deficit to get the victory
The Falcons led 14-6 after a 6-yard TD run from Jackson McDonald and a 4-yard TD run from Jeremiah Goss midway through the second quarter. But the Wolverines rallied for two scores in the final 3:46 of the second quarter to take the lead 21-14 on a pair of Gabe Pierce TD runs.
Flowery Branch tied the game at 21 midway through the fourth quarter on a 10-yard TD run by Goss but then watched as Trevor O'Brien and Hampton McConnell each scored on runs late in the fourth quarter as the Wolverines pulled away for the victory.
Goss finished with 128 yards on 20 carries to pace Flowery Branch. McDonald threw for 115 yards for the Falcons.
Pierce had 103 yards and three touchdowns to lead West Forsyth. O'Brien added 91 yards rushing and McConnell finished 11-for-19 passing for 141 yards.
Flowery Branch will look to bounce back next week against Cedar Shoals. Flowery Branch finds itself in the same position it did last year -- when the Falcons bounced back from 0-2 to win Region 8-AAAAA.
