LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County police said a fight over a puppy was behind the stabbing death of a Lawrenceville man early Wednesday morning.

Investigators said 51-year-old Joseph M. Kollie was stabbed a number of times by his stepson after the two argued over a puppy the stepson had brought in to the home on Congress Parkway.

Diamond G. Mason, 23, has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in the incident.

Officer said they were called to the residence just before 1:15 a.m. During the course of the investigation, they determined that Kollie and Mason had been fighting over the dog ever since Mason brought the animal into the home about a week ago. The argument escalated late Tuesday night and into the early hours of Wednesday morning, according to officers, when Mason stabbed his stepfather with a couple of large knives.
Mason is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Jail.
