GBI: Clarkesville mayor's wife present at time of deadly shooting

CLARKESVILLE — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released a statement on its probe into the death of Clarkesville Mayor Dr. Terry Greene.

The email statement, released Monday morning, said the investigation began as a shooting incident that resulted from a reported domestic disturbance between Mayor Greene and his wife Anne Greene. The residence is located on Asbury Street in Clarkesville.

The shooting was reported to Clarkesville police at 7:01 p.m. Sunday. Greene was transported to the Atlanta Medical Center where he later died.

Greene's body was taken to the GBI’s Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur, GA where an autopsy is scheduled to be conducted on December 15.

The GBI statement said the investigation is active and ongoing, and agents do not plan to release any other information at this time.
