Deer causes fatal crash on Hwy. 60 near Murrayville; Dahlonega man killed

By B.J. Williams
MURRAYVILLE — The Georgia State Patrol said it appears a deer trying to cross Ga. Hwy. 60 (Thompson Bridge Road) caused a crash that killed a Dahlonega man and injured a Gainesville woman Friday morning.

GSP Cpl. Auston Allen said troopers were called to the scene on Ga. 60 at Walden Road at 6:23 a.m.

Allen said Janeen Anderson, 51, of Gainesville was driving northbound on Ga. 60 when a deer tried to cross the roadway from the east shoulder and ran in front of her car. He said Anderson hit the deer and then veered into the path of a southbound vehicle being driven by Ricky Ledbetter, 60, of Dahlonega.

Ledbetter was killed in the crash. Anderson was injured and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville

"I would call her injuries more extensive than minor, but most definitely not critical or even severe," Allen said.

Hospital officials said she was treated and has since been released.

Allen said the roadway was entirely cleared by about 8:41 a.m.  He said charges are not expected to be filed.
