ATLANTA (AP) A 23-year-old Georgia man has been sentenced to serve more than 17 years in federal prison for using extortion to get teenage girls to send him pornographic images.
The U.S. attorney's office in Atlanta says Destin Whitmore has been sentenced to serve 17 and a half years, followed by supervised release for life. Whitmore, of Canton, pleaded guilty in September to charges of extortion, distribution of child pornography, and possession of child pornography.
Authorities say Whitmore sent teenage girls compromising images of themselves that they had sent to him or others. Prosecutors say Whitmore told the girls he would send the images to other people, including their families, unless they sent him more images.
Prosecutors say Whitmore contacted and extorted at least nine girls over a period of six months.
