Ga. woman jumps on car hood during theft, suspect arrested

SMYRNA, Ga. (AP) Smyrna police say an Atlanta teen who was shot during an attempted car theft has been arrested.

Police spokesman Chris Graeff says a woman was cleaning her car at a car wash Friday afternoon when the boy jumped inside and tried taking off. Graeff says a city employee tried stopping the teen and the woman jumped onto the hood of her car as he drove off.

Graeff says the city employee shot the teen in his shoulder and held him at gunpoint until police arrived on the scene.

Graeff says the teen was taken to Kennestone Hospital and faces charges of aggravated assault and theft by taking. Graeff says several other suspects were seen fleeing the area in a red van.

Graeff says the owner of the car wasn't injured.
