CUMMING - Forsyth County elections officials will wait until Friday for votes to be certified by the Secretary of State following an emergency meeting this afternoon to discuss their next option in a razor-thin special election yesterday.
After certification on Friday, if necessary, decisions will be made regarding locations, days and times for Advance Voting for a possible Special Election Runoff for House District 24.
The top vote getter in yesterday's Special Election for the post was Sheri Smallwood Gilligan, who garned 49-point-97 percent of the vote.
To win the election outright, however, Gilligan would need 50-percent of the vote plus one. Elections officials are working to verify three provisional ballots to determine if a run-off is needed.
The candidate receiving the second highest number of votes was David M. VanSant with 24.55% (877 votes).
Ethan Underwood won 20.69% of the vote (739 votes) and Will Kremer received 4.79% (171 votes).
All four candidates ran as Republicans.
