BUFORD — A family of four is without a place to live after fire destroyed their home on Westbrook Street in Buford Sunday afternoon.
Gwinnett Fire Department officials said three people were home when the fire was reported just before 5 p.m. The homeowner told fire investigators he saw smoke on the front porch of the house, so he was forced to escape the burning house through a back door. Another resident of the home was rescued from the back porch by a neighbor using a ladder.
Investigators said the second story of the home collapsed onto the bottom floor; the house was destroyed.
The American Red Cross was called to assist the family.
Fire investigators said they don't know yet how the fire started.
