SUWANEE — The electric car charging station in Suwanee's Town Center has been operational since June 24, and this past week City Council members got an update on the popularity of the new device.
Data presented to City Council at a Thursday night work session showed that from July to August the station use increased from 35 users to 44 users.
While that number seemed to please the group, Councilwoman Linnea Miller suggested the city create a logo to put on city materials to further publicize the service, especially since it's a unit that performs more efficiently than some others.
"The fast-charging station can charge most vehicles 80% in about 20 minutes,” said Public Works Director James Miller. "Oother chargers can take four or even eight hours.”
Cost for the charging station was approximately $49,000. Half of that cost was paid by a grant received through the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority’s Charge Georgia program.
The fast-charging station is the first of its kind to be installed by a municipality in Gwinnett County.
