JEFFERSON, Ga. (AP) An Athens man is charged in a wreck that killed three members of two heavy metal bands when their van carrying 12 people careened off an interstate and down a northeast Georgia embankment.
The Athens Banner-Herald (http://bit.ly/1lcE7f3 ) reports 28-year-old driver Sergio Jose Quesada was charged Monday in Jackson County with DUI, failing to maintain a lane and three counts of first-degree homicide by vehicle.
Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Scott Smith said Quesada apparently fell asleep while driving April 6 near the town of Commerce, striking a tree. Three passengers were killed, while eight others were injured. It's unclear whether Quesada has an attorney.
Authorities say the victims were members of either Khaotika, an Atlanta band, or Wormreich, a Huntsville, Alabama-based band. Both were traveling to play at an Atlanta concert.
