Suwanee to swear in three incumbents, name mayor pro-tem

SUWANEE — The mayor and two members of the Suwanee City Council will take their oaths of office, and the city's second-in-command will be appointed.

Suwanee Mayor Jimmy Burnette and councilmen Dick Goodman and Doug Ireland, all inclumbents, will be sworn into office Thursday at the Suwanee City Council's regular voting meeting, and council members will vote on the city's mayor pro-tem.

Council will also appoint certain city officers, such as the city attorney, and adopt their rules and procedures, said Marty Allen, city manager.

Councilwoman Beth Hilscher, elected in 2012, has served as mayor pro-tem previously, and could be re-appointed to the second-in-command position once again.

None of the elected officials taking their oaths of office are new to their posts.

Burnette, first elected in 2011 ran unopposed for mayor, while Ireland, first elected in 2012, defeated challenger Sarah Kelinfeld for Post 1, and Goodman, first elected in 2009, defeated Stephan Caldwell for Post 2.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Suwanee City Hall, located in Town Center Park.
