Hall County Master Gardeners welcome spring with yearly Garden Expo

By AccessWDUN Staff

The bushes, flowers and trees are beginning to bloom, so that must mean the Annual Hall County Master Gardeners Spring Garden Expo is coming up.

The 2016 Expo will be held Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2 at Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center at 1855 Calvary Church Road in Gainesville.

Organizers say more than 50 vendors will participate in this year's Expo, including many returning nurseries such as McMahon’s Nursery, Highland Gardens, The Potting Shed, Randy’s Perennials and Shady Characters. Vendors offering gardening accessories include Pottery By Mac, Stephen’s Custom Woodworking, New Horizons and Experienced Garden Tools. The Hall County Master Gardeners want the public can have plenty of varieties of plants to choose from, including native plants which more gardeners agree are hardier and attract beneficial insects such as pollinators.

There will also be speakers on both days of the festival. On Friday, Master Gardener Bob Bradbury of B&B Enterprises Herbs and Honey will talk about ‘What’s Involved In Being A Beekeeper?’ at 11 am, followed by Hillary Thompson of Supersod at 1 pm discussing ‘The Benefits of Raised Bed Vegetable Gardening.'  On Saturday, Master Gardener Mary Richards of Garden Harmony Design will discuss ‘Deer Resistant Gardens’ at 11 am, and at 1 pm Jodi Karlin of Just Add Water will present ‘Conifers and Pruning Techniques.'

Food vendors will also be on site during the annual event.

Friday the gates open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Saturday hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The admission fee for adults is $2. Children are admitted free. Pets are not allowed at this event.
