Recovery from the thunderstorms in Northeast Georgia continues Wednesday morning.
Utility crews are continuing to clear debris from roads in Hall, Gwinnett, Forsyth, Towns and Dawson Counties with dozens of roads affected from the Tuesday rain and wind gusts.
Wendy Smith of Jackson EMC says nearly all of Jackson EMC’s 264,000 members now have power. She said linemen have been working through the night and will continue working to restore outages as quickly as conditions and safety procedures allow.
Overall tens of thousands of people in the Northeast Georgia area were without power at some point during the storms. Just under 2,000 remained without power as of 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Hall County Emergency Management Director Zach Brackett said over 50 trees were reportedly blocking roads in the county during the height of the storms.
The city of Gainesville's social media page reported after 10:45 p.m. Tuesday that more than 35 streets were dealing with outages or blockage issues. As of 10:15 a.m.Thusrday, the city reported that only five roads are still blocked by trees:
- Club Drive
- Burns Avenue- Crews hope to have open by noon Thursday.
- Morningside Drive
- Park Hill Drive- Crews hope to have open by noon Thursday.
The city also reported that all traffic lights in the city are operational after several were disabled by the power outages.
