Hall County terminates fire department official after arrest

By B.J. Williams
Circumstances surrounding the case are unclear, but the lieutenant in charge of inspections and investigations for Hall County Fire Services has been terminated.

Sandon Dax Lewis was arrested Wednesday and charged with giving false statements and misdemeanor obstruction, according to Hall County spokeswoman Katie Crumley. She said Lewis was fired following the arrest and referred all other questions to the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office issued a written statement about the arrest via email:

“On Tuesday, April 26, 2016, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office received a request from the Hall County Fire Department to assist with an investigation. Based upon evidence discovered during the course of the investigation, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sandon Dax Lewis on the charges of Giving False Statements and Misdemeanor Obstruction. This case remains under investigation," the statement read.

Law enforcement offered no specifics on the arrest and did not provide an arrest report. Hall County Magistrate Court officials indicated arrest warrants were not available via their office because Lewis had posted bond directly to Superior Court.

Attempts to locate Lewis for comment were not successful as of 3 p.m. Thursday.

Prior to his termination, Lewis had worked with Hall County Fire Services since August 5, 2002.
