Tanner appointed as interim manager for Dawson County

By B.J. Williams
As of last week, Dawson County has a new interim county manager.

Bill Tanner, a retired Park Superintendent for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, was appointed to the post at a called meeting of the Dawson County Commission last Wednesday.

The county manager's post was left vacant late last month when Randy Dowling resigned suddenly; County Finance Manager Vickie Neikirk assumed duties of the county manager for about a week before Tanner was named to the job on an interim basis.

In addition to his nearly three decades of work with the DNR, Tanner most recently was the Facilities Manager for the Chestatee Regional Library System, responsible for three properties in Dawson and Lumpkin counties.

Tanner confirmed via email he has applied for the full-time position. The county's deadline for accepting applications for the post is August 10, according to the Dawson County government website.
