Who would ever imagine building a home in the parking lot of a manufacturing plant?
King’s Hawaiian Bakery and Habitat for Humanity of Hall County have done just that. What began as a conversation between Joe Leonardo, the Vice President of manufacturing at Kings Hawaiian, and Ann Nixon, the former Executive Director at Habitat for Humanity of Hall County, is now a reality.
King’s Hawaiian provided all of the funding for the construction and the moving of the home to the Copper Glen neighborhood. The home is being built for Maria and her four children. Maria has been an employee of King’s Hawaiian for over four years. King’s Hawaiian employees built the floor system, walls and raised the roof trusses in seven workdays.
Tuesday morning at 8:30 Maria’s home will begin its’ move from the parking lot of the King’s Hawaiian Bakery in Flowery Branch to its permanent resting place in Copper Glen.
