BALDWIN — Since no one qualified for the Post 1 Baldwin City Council seat for the November election, the city will try again next year.
During Monday night's city council meeting, Councilman Theron Ayers made a motion to place the Special Election for Post 1 on the ballot on May 22, 2018. Councilman Joe Elam seconded, and the motion passed 4-0.
“The election date that they are thinking about is the General Primary date,” said Habersham County Election Supervisor Laurel Ellison. “They will just have the Special Election for the Post 1 seat in conjunction with the General Primary next year.”
Ellison said she believes the Town of Alto will do the same thing for its open Post 2 Town Council seat since no one qualified to seek that seat in November either.
The General Primary will contain statewide races like governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, commissioner of agriculture, commissioner of insurance, state school superintendent, and commissioner of labor, as well as the District 9 U.S. House race and U.S. Senate races.
In Habersham County, two county commission seats and three board of education seats will appear on the ballot, along with the District 50 State Senate seat, District 10 State House seat, and District 28 State House seat.
