Hundreds of people took advantage of the free meals and hot showers offered at Hall County's six middle schools yesterday and today.
"Last evening and this morning Hall County Schools opened our doors to families in our community who have been without power since Monday, September 11, 2017," school system spokesman Gordon Higgins said in an email. "Families came to our six middle schools - Chestatee, East Hall, Davis, North Hall, South Hall, West Hall - in large numbers to enjoy a free hot meal and to have access to showers."
Higgins did not provide numbers for all of the schools but said "North Hall Middle, for example, served over 200 last evening and East Hall served over 300 last evening and this morning. The community is invited again this afternoon between 2:00--5:00 p.m. for an afternoon/evening meal."
The county's three community centers are also providing showers today as well as a place for people to hook up their electronic devices.
