Feeding families in Gwinnett now that school is out for the summer

Many children rely on the school system to provide them with healthy meals, so what do they do when school is out? Some organizations in Gwinnett County are coming together to try to help solve the answer to that question.

According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, the school district, county and a local sustainable waste management company are working together to feed children even though school is out for the summer break.

Through pop-up grocery stores held around the county over the next couple of days, families will be able to get all the supplies they would need to fill their pantry – and all for free. Locally sourced meat or fish, eggs, milk, cereal, fresh vegetables and more will all be available, serving more than 200 families at each location.

Separately, on June 1 the Gwinnett Summer Meals Program begins providing free grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches for children at 25 locations, including some county parks and libraries. It is part of a U.S. Department of Agriculture effort. Meals will be provided from June 1 through the beginning of August. You can read more about that at gwinnettsummermeals.com.

As for the pop-up groery stores, according to the Goodr Facebook page, registration is pre-required for these events. The schedule is as follows:
