Atlanta area school system to give alternative meal to students with unpaid meal charges

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

The families with children who attend Decatur schools and have unpaid meal charges will be getting an alternative to the food selection on that day's lunch menu -- cheese sandwiches and milk.

Jasmine Crowe-Houston, a mother and CEO of a food sustainability company is opposed to the plan that school officials are planning to use in February. She told Atlanta News First that she feels the procedure will be demeaning for students dealing with critisism from their peers.

According to reports from the City Schools of Decatur, any student who has charged three meals and cannot pay their designated rates for the next meal will receive a cheese sandwich and milk, instead of the standard menu, starting on February 2nd.
