Ellijay woman charged with aggravated assault, weapon on school property in Tennessee

An Ellijay woman is facing charges in Tennessee for allegedly pointing a pellet gun that looked like semi-automatic handgun at a high school.

Brittany Rowe, 34, was charged with felony criminal attempt (aggravated assault) and felony weapon on school property Wednesday, according to WBIR in Knoxville, Tenn.

Police in Sevierville, Tenn., told WBIR that Rowe was allegedly screaming and acting incoherently in the main parking lot of Sevier County High School when she brandished the black, semi-automatic handgun look-alike.

School staff apparently alerted school security to the woman in a black SUV around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Sevierville Police Department School Resource Officer Shain Burgess investigated and found Rowe standing next to the SUV with the alleged gun, the TV station reported.

He told her to drop the weapon and she did, then she reportedly got in her car and drove off. Another officer was able to stop Rowe about 20 minutes afterwards, about 2.5 miles away from the scene.

WBIR said Rowe was arrested without incident and was taken to the Sevier County Jail.
