Ranger water jump scheduled for Wednesday at War Hill Park in Dawson Co.

By AccessWDUN Staff

Coming up next week, War Hill Park in Dawson County will be the site for the annual water jump for the U.S. Army 5th Ranger Training Battalion.

The actual Water Jump from War Hill Park into Lake Lanier takes place on Wednesday, May 9 but there will be training and rehearsals for the event on Tuesday, May 8.

According to a press statement, the event is an airborne operation where soldiers from the 5th Ranger Training Battalion parachute from Georgia Army National Guard helicopters and land in Lake Lanier. The training exercise is designed to enhance the morale of the unit, to build the soldiers' proficiency in airborne operations and to develop law enforcement and emergency medical service inter-agency capability.

Local officials ask that community members and park visitors have all vehicles removed from the War Hill Park boat ramp and the boat ramp parking lot before 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 8.

Dawson County Parks and Recreation will officially close the ramp and parking lot the afternoon of May 8. Boaters in the area should note that boat traffic on Lake Lanier could be delayed May 8 and 9.

If inclement weather prevents the jump on May 9,  the jump will be rescheduled for May 10.
