CLEVELAND — White County Sheriff’s Office officials have released details of a recent incident where deputies had to fight an individual during a call to a domestic dispute near Cleveland.
Deputies were called to the incident on New Bridge Road at 6:10 p.m. Aug. 21.
Sheriff’s Capt. Rick Kelley said when the deputies arrived they were told there had been a physical altercation and the offender was currently located in the basement and had threatened to harm himself.
Deputies established contact with the offender, identified as Jerry Trigg, in the basement.
Trigg let the deputies know that he was armed and refused to show the deputies his hands, Kelley said. Trigg also threatened to shoot the deputies. After a few minutes, Trigg showed his hands, which were empty, to the deputies.
Trigg then charged at the deputies, Kelley said. One of the deputies deployed a Taser on Trigg, but Trigg continued to fight with the deputies while they were handcuffing him.
White County Emergency Medical Services was dispatched to the scene to assist with the Taser prong removal, but medical personnel in the field were unsuccessful, so Trigg was transported to Habersham Medical Center, Kelley said.
After the prongs were removed, Trigg was transported to the White County Detention Center, according to Kelley.
Trigg was charged with three counts of felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer and two counts of terroristic threats and acts.
