The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has not yet determined the identity of a body found in a pond in Winder earlier this week, but agents said Friday they do not believe foul play is involved in the death.
The body of the white male was discovered just after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 in a pond near 2323 Booth Circle in Winder. Agents said in a press release the body had likely been in the water for several days.
Barrow County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the scene and called the GBI to take the lead in the investigation.
The body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur for autopsy. Agents said further testing must be done to determine the identification of the body and the cause of death for the victim.
Anyone who has information that might help with the investigation is asked to contact the Athens GBI Office at 706-552-2309.
