February trial date set for suspended Gwinnett County judge

By AccessWDUN Staff
Prosecutors have set February 3, 2020 as the trial date for a Gwinnett County Superior Court judge accused of hacking into the computer system at the county courthouse.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported Tuesday that Kathryn Schrader and two co-defendants will be tried that week on charges of  felony criminal trespass,

Schrader was suspended from the bench in October after she and the co-defendants were indicted.

Schrader reportedly believed her work computer was being hacked, so she hired a private investigator to install monitoring software on her computer. Prosecutors said that amounted to illegal interference with the Gwinnett County courthouse's computer network.

The newspaper said representatives from the Prosecuting Attorneys Council of Georgia are prosecuting the case in place of the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s office. Schrader said early in the investigation she thought DA Danny Porter was behind the hacking of her computer, but he denied the accusations.

TJ Ward, the private investigator hired by Schrader, entered a guilty plea in the case last month, according to the newspaper. Frank Karic, a man Ward hired to install the software on Schrader's computer is one of the co-defendants as is Ed Kramer.  Kramer, one of the co-founders of Dragon Con, is involved because the issue came to light when he was arrested on an unrelated charge back in February.
