CDC: Gainesville company expands boiled egg recall

By AccessWDUN Staff
The Gainesville company that produces bulk hard-boiled eggs is voluntarily expanding a recall of its products, according to the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control.

The company issued a statement that said it is acting voluntarily "out of an abundance of caution" in the recall expansion. The company has also stopped all production at the Gainesville facility.

Last week, the bulk eggs from Almark Foods were linked to a listeria outbreak that has sickened people in seven states. One death has been linked to the illness.

Initially, the recall was for eggs that had been shipped to restaurants, but now Almark is expanding the recall to include packaged boiled eggs sold in stores. (See the list below)
The recall now includes all Almark boiled eggs with "best if used by" dates through March 2 where the date code starts with the letter G. That letter designates the company’s Gainesville plant.
