ATHENS — Jose Gomez gave the Johnson boys soccer team a chance to win Friday night at Clarke Central.
He scored with 1:03 left to play to tie the game and send it to overtime. After a scoreless extra period, the game came down to penalty kicks. The Knights (11-2, 5-0) outkicked the Gladiators 5-4 to win the penalty-kick battle and the Region 8-5A championship, 2-1.
It was the Knights sixth straight region title.
