Because the Pickens County School System has experienced some problems recently with students suffering severe reactions after using vape materials, local law enforcement began investigating where the kids were buying the products. On Friday, March 29, officers raided three different stores and confiscated hundreds of illegal vape products.
According to a press statement, the effort was a joint operation between the Pickens Sheriff’s Office, the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway Drug Task Force and other law enforcement agencies.
The press statement indicated that investigators had received tips that the vapes containing suspected Schedule I narcotics were being sold at retailers in Pickens County.
In the initial operation, officers executed search warrants at the Jasper Smoke Shop at 859 South Main Street, the Chevron located at 850 South Main Street and the Tate Citgo located at 20 Canton Road.
Officer said they seized some 287 bottles of vape products believed to contain Schedule I narcotic ingredients. They identified the brands of liquids seized as “Kentucky Route," “Galaxy” and “Gold Magic” among others.
The press statement did not indicate there were any arrests associated with the confiscation of the vapes.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the Pickens County Sheriff's Office.
