Soccer: Chestatee and Lakeview girls win; GAC sweeps North Hall

The Chestatee girls soccer team ended the season on a high note. 

The Lady War Eagles blanked West Hall, 7-0, to finish the 2019 campaign with the Region 7-4A win.  

Before half time Kyleigh Drew went to work early for the Lady War Eagles, recording the hat trick before halftime. Vanessa Camacho and Kristy Guardiola both assisted Drew. 

Camacho and Guardiola also scored before the half to push the Lady War Eagles' lead to 4-0 at the end of the half. 

In the second half, Drew added two more goals off assists from Greyson Wood. 

Late in the game, Jennifer Perez, who came out of the goal to play the field, scored when Drew crossed a perfect ball that landed at her foot outside the 18-yard box. Perez took the ball in for the War Eagles' final goal of the night. 

 

LAKEVIEW GIRLS 5,
PRINCE AVENUE 1

The Lady Lions avenged their loss to Athens Academy with the win over Region 8-A foe Prince Avenue Tuesday at home. 

The win clinched a Class A Private state playoff spot for the fifth straight season for the Lady Lions. 

Millie Filson scored two goals to lead Lakeview. Sara Nivens, Lauren Scott, and Maggie Abboud each scored. 

Filson and Isabella Rojas-Alban had two assists each and Maddy Towles had one. 

Prince Avenue scored its lone goal off a penalty kick in the second half.  

Lakeview closes out the regular season Thursday at Athens Academy.  


GREATER ATLANTA BOYS 1,
NORTH HALL 0

The Trojans (6-8, 2-4 Region 7-3A) needed a win to advance to the Class 3A playoffs, but, second-ranked GAC was in the way.

North Hall played the Spartans even in the first half with both teams scoreless. 

Despite a fairly even start to the second half, GAC (14-3, 6-0 Region 7-3A) converted a 20th-minute corner kick to take the one-goal lead. 

In the final fifteen minutes, the Trojans' Austin Godoy beat the Spartan keeper on a shot, only to see the ball bounce off the inside of the post and back into the field.

GAC's defense stepped up twice, stopping Miguel Elias and Alex Aguilar on shots inside the six-yard box.  Keeper Ty Smith made 12 saves for the Trojans, eight of which were in the first half.

NORTH HALL 0

The Lady Trojans struggled to find the net in the loss to GAC Tuesday night.
 
The Lady Trojans (4-8-1, 3-3 Region 7-3A) finished fourth in the region and will either play at Calhoun or Adairsville in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs on April 23.
