Qualifying continues through noon Wednesday for Cleveland Ward 2

CLEVELAND – No one qualified Monday for the Cleveland City Council Ward 2 seat.

Because of social distancing requirements as part of COVID-19 response, Cleveland City Clerk Connie Tracas said the qualifying process is a little different.

Since city hall is closed to the public, any potential candidate can call in advance to receive a qualifying packet, Tracas said. She will meet with anyone interested to give the packet and answer any questions.

“We want to give everyone living in Ward 2 an opportunity to qualify,” Tracas said. “Only one potential candidate at a time will be allowed in city hall.”

Qualifying for the May 19 Special Election will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, and from 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 1.

Tracas said it is important that potential candidates call (706) 865-2017 before going to city hall. Those who forget can knock on the door at city hall for assistance.

The seat was left vacant when Annie Sutton resigned to seek the mayor’s seat.
