A second grade teacher at Sardis Enrichment School in the Hall County School District has been named a 2020 Davis Scholar, winning a $500 scholarship towards the pursuit of an advanced degree.
Stephanie Oliaro Brannon is currently working toward her Specialist Degree at Piedmont College, according to information released this week by the school district.
Brannon said in her scholarship application that teaching had been her career goal even as a child.
"It was my dream…I want to be the encourager, the mentor, the leader. I want to lead my students to believe that they can reach for the stars. I want to instill a love for learning. I want my students to look back one day and know that I cared for them and that I loved them. I want to be the teacher they remember. I want what I do to matter," Brannon said. "As a mother, my pedagogy has evolved slightly. I have always wanted to be a great teacher, but now I try to think about the teacher I would want for my son."
The North Georgia Community Foundation administers the C.W. Davis Scholarship, which is dispersed in honor of the life and career of C.W. Davis, principal of the original Flowery Branch High School in 1953 and a former superintendent of the Hall County School District. C.W. Davis Middle School was named in his honor in 1999. The C.W. Davis Scholarship has been established in his honor to assist current Hall County teachers as they pursue an advanced degree and life-long career in education.
The Hall County School Board will recognize Brannon at a board meeting later this summer or early fall.
