Hall County students named finalists for Governor’s Honors Program

Thirteen students within the Hall County School District have been named finalists or alternates for this summer’s Georgia Governor’s Honors Program.

The Governor’s Honors Program is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school juniors and seniors administered by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement. According to a press release from the Hall County School District, the program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom and provides students with academic, cultural and social enrichment.

The program will take place on the campus of Berry College in Rome from June 13 to July 10. Students will get the chance to explore topics within their major area of nomination and one other area of study of their choice. In addition, students can participate in seminars, activities, concerts and performances during the evenings.

According to the release, GOSA is planning to do everything possible to hold GHP in-person this summer, but the GHP staff is making plans for both an in-person and virtual program. Sophomores who were finalists in 2020 and did not get to participate due to COVID are automatically accepted for this year’s program.

GHP has been fully funded and free for participants since its beginning in 1964.

Less than 700 students were selected as finalists in the 2021 GHP from a pool of more than 3,000 applicants. The finalists from the Hall County School District are:

  • Anna Aultman, Cherokee Bluff High School
  • Zachary Hames, Cherokee Bluff High School
