Man, woman found dead in Social Circle had possible ties to Hoschton, Gainesville

By B.J. Williams

A man and a woman were found shot to death early Friday morning on a rural road in Social Circle, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has now taken the lead on the case.

Social Circle Police Chief Will Brinkley said in a social media post his officers were called to the scene on Thurman Baccus Road around 6 a.m. where they discovered the bodies of a man and a woman. Both appeared to have been shot to death. At that point, state investigators were called to assist with the investigation.

"We are working diligently in a coordinated effort with the GBI to identify and arrest the person or persons responsible for this senseless act of violence," Brinkley wrote.

The GBI's Nelly Miles identified the victims in the incident as James Robert Evans, 27, and Jaymine Whitlock, 32. Agents did not say where the victims lived but GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said Evans had previous ties to the Hoschton area and Whitlock "may have had some connections to Gainesville at one point." Miles said the two had been staying in Walton County for at least the past several days.

No other details have been released in the deaths.
