The man killed in Gainesville shooting has been identified

A man who was killed in a shooting in Gainesville on Sunday has now been identified. 

The Gainesville Police Department has identified the man as David Best, 42, of Lithonia. 

Original Story: A Gainesville woman has been charged with shooting and killing a man early Sunday morning.

Gainesville police responded to a call about a shooting at the Pine Cove Apartments off Browns Bridge Rd. just after 6 a.m. on Sunday. When police arrived, a man was found with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

A Gainesville woman has been charged with his death. Sarah Voss, 34, was arrested. The initial investigation indicates that Voss had an argument with the victim, at which point shots were fire. Voss and the victim were acquaintances.

The victim’s name has not been released, pending notification of his relatives.

Voss is being charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. She remains in the Hall County Jail.

According to Chief Jay Parrish, the investigation was a collaboration between departments. The Gainesville Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Hall County District Attorney’s Office all assisted with the investigation.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected as everyone continues to navigate forward in this investigation,” said Parrish in a media statement. “The exceptional teamwork by the members of the Gainesville Police Department and our partnering agencies led to swift actions. The collaboration between all agencies and our community helped bring some closure to those impacted by this tragic incident.”
