Rabid raccoon found on Graham Circle in Gainesville

A rabid raccoon was recently caught in the 5000 block of Graham Circle in Gainesville, according to Hall County officials.

The raccoon came into contact with a dog in the area. The raccoon was sent to the Georgia Public Health Lab - Virology Section in Decatur, and Hall County Animal Control learned Thursday it had tested positive for rabies.

Alert signs will be posted in the area where the raccoon was found. Residents are encouraged to have their pets vaccinated against the disease and to call Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 if they see an animal acting abnormally.

If calling outside work hours, residents should call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.

This case is the third confirmed case of rabies in Hall County this year.
