Girls soccer: Bluff, Johnson, Branch all take region wins

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Class 4A fourth-ranked Cherokee Bluff exploded for seven goals in the opening 25 minutes en route to an 8-1 win over East Forsyth in a Region 8-4A matchup at Yonah Field.

Kaitlin Cook powered the attack with a hat trick and added an assist while Genesis Gamez dished out 4 assists for the game for the Lady Bears (8-1, 2-0 Region 8-4A), who remain one of three unbeaten teams in region play along with North Oconee and Johnson.

The defense put in another dominant performance as well, led by Ellie Sutulovich and Anna Gessner. They have allowed just three total goals during a 6-match win streak with four shutouts.

Eva Martin and Amelia Dovie each had a goal and an assist while Alyssa Stringer, Tyndall Brix, and Naomi Cornett all netted one goal apiece. Carson Demars added one assist for Cherokee Bluff.

Bluff next will play host to Walnut Grove on Friday.

The Lady Knights ran their unbeaten streak to 6 with a solid road win in Region 8-4A action.

It was a slim 1-0 lead at halftime on a goal by Abbie Menjavar off a corner from Joana Marban. The match got tighter when the Lady Jaguars tied the match early in the second half.

But Nancy Torres gave Johnson the lead for good on an unassisted goal off a deflection and Arielle Carlson gave the Lady Knights the cushion they needed with an unassisted goal late.

Johnson (5-2-1, 3-0 Region 8-4A) is one of three unbeaten teams in region play along with North Oconee and Cherokee Bluff. The Lady Knights are off until traveling to Cedar Shoals on March 7.

WHITE COUNTY 0

The Lady Falcons got a quick goal and made it stand up over the final 77 minutes in a tense road win over the Class 3A fifth-ranked Lady Warriors.

Sarah Greiner scored in the 3rd minute off an assist from Ella Grace Lawler and the Branch defense did the rest. 

Flowery Branch (7-1) next will play host to Heritage-Conyers on Friday in a Region 8-5A match.

White County (7-3) had its three-match win streak snapped. The Lady Warriors are off until playing to host to Banks County on March 6.
