By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

Unemployment rates in Northeast Georgia remain unchanged from a month ago. That is according to state Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson's office.

His office released the state's unemployment numbers from June, showing that Gainesville recorded an unemployment rate of 2.7 percent.

That is unchanged from a revised 2.7 percent in May.  One year ago, the rate was also at 2.7 percent.

Thompson says, "The bedrock of a thriving economy lies in maintaining low unemployment, but equally essential is striking the right balance between job growth and a capable workforce that can meet the evolving needs of Georgia’s industries.”

Gainesville ended May with 103,700 jobs. From May to June, job numbers decreased by 100. When compared to June of 2022, job numbers increased by 2,900.

The labor force decreased in Gainesville by 103 and ended the month just under 109-thousand, up more than 1,250 when compared to June of 2022.
