Barrow County structure fire destroys auto shop building

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter
A structure fire in Winder believed to be accidental in nature has destroyed a Barrow County auto repair shop.

The Barrow County Emergency Services social media post says their safety crews responded to reports of a structure fire at the 300 block of Bert Day Road in Winder just before 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Safety crews found an auto shop with heavy fire showing from the exterior of the building.

Barrow County Public Information Officer Scott Dakin said several fire truck and ariel units were invovled in containing flames and needed several hours to extinguish the fire.

The building and numerous vehicles around it were completely destroyed.

The Fire Marshal Office responded on site and has initially determined the fire to be accidental in nature.

One person from inside the building at the time of the fire was treated and released on scene by medical personnel.
