Otwell Middle School student wins Forsyth County Spelling Bee

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter
A student from Otwell Middle School was named the champion of the Forsyth County School District’s annual spelling bee held on January 6th at the FoCAL center.

The event allowed students from various elementary and middle schools in the district to compete in 20 rounds of the bee for a chance to compete in the GAE Region spelling bee in February.

Vikram Venkiteswaran was named the winner of the competition after correctly spelling the word “calligram”.

Cindy Zhou of Lakeside Middle School was named first runner-up.  Adhyak Balamurugan of Kelly Mill Elementary School came in third place, Sharanya Vats of North Forsyth Middle School came in fourth place, and Ardra Vimal of Brookwood Elementary School came in fifth place.

All five participants will compete in the upcoming regional bee. Sixth-place winner Manasa Prasath of Piney Grove Middle School will serve as an alternate for the district in that competition.
