Unemployment rates for Georgia's work force remained low or even improved in some locations during the holiday season, heading into 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL).
The recent numbers in from Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson's office shows December's unemployment rate for the Georgia Mountains region remained unchanged at 2.4 percent, similar to the rates from one year ago.
The City of Gainesville's rate of unemployment was similarly the same from last year, at 2.2 percent in December. Those rates are slightly lower than the statewide average of 2.8 percent.
"Georgia's success story is nothing short of phenominal, boasting a blockbuster year with over 5.1 million hardworking Georgians driving our state forward," according to Commisisoner Thompson.
In his release Thursday, Thompson added, "As existing businesses scale new heights and a steady influx of new enterprises proudly choose Georgia as their home, the Peach State appears headed toward continued economic success."
