The work force and job placement rates locally and statewide are showing continued signs of optimism for the end of 2024.
The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) announced that the Gainesville area recorded an unemployment rate of 2.6 percent in November, unchanged over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 2.0 percent.
The GDOL's Emergency Interim Successor Louis DeBroux says, “Georgia proves that smart leadership and bold policies drive economic success. While other states struggle with overregulation and economic uncertainty, Georgia’s economy is thriving—job numbers are up in 12 regions, unemployment claims are down across the board, and businesses continue to choose our state as the best place to grow and invest."
The labor force in Gainesville decreased by 426 over-the-month but grew by 678 over-the-year, ending November at 114,287.
The number of employed residents in Gainesville decreased by 393 over-the-month and was down 5 over-the-year, totaling 111,334.
Gainesville achieved an all-time high of 111,600 jobs in November, an increase of 300 jobs over-the-month and 900 jobs over-the-year.
Initial unemployment claims in Gainesville decreased by 77 over-the-month and 78 over-the-year, totaling 228.
