The Georgia Environmental Finance Authority recently awarded multiple Northeast Georgia Communities over $2 million in loan funding for lead service line inventory and replacement projects.
A press release from the GEFA said the money was awarded through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.
The City of Gainesville was awarded $1 million for inventory and replacement.
Forsyth County was provided a $500,000 loan for inventory and replacement.
Toccoa was awarded $770,000 for inventory and replacement.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law allocated DWSRF funds to water systems to complete lead service line inventory projects and lead service line replacement projects.
“All water systems are required to submit a completed service line inventory to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by October 16, 2024,” the release read.
BIL investment in the water sector included $50 billion to the EPA to strengthen the nation's drinking water and wastewater systems.
In total, the GEFA awarded $15,937,746 to communities around the state.
