Gwinnet County law enforcement to hold a drug takeback event

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

The Gwinnett County Police Department is partnering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency for the National Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative on Saturday, April 27. It takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Locations for the Take Back Initiative include the GCPD's headquarters on Hi Hope Road in Lawrenceville, each of their departments' six precincts throughout the county and at CoolRay Field. Officers will be on hand at each location so that people who have tablets, capsules, patches, and other forms of prescription drugs can drop them off at collection sites for proper disposal.

Liquids, syringes, sharps, and other drugs will NOT be accepted.

The GCPD's social media page says the purpose of the initiative is to combat overdose deaths, as the proper disposal of unused drugs can save lives.

The CDC estimates that more than 109,000 drug deaths occurred in 2022, many were due to fentanyl overdoses.
