Girls soccer playoffs: Buford, Jefferson, Dawson, Towns all move into semifinals

By AccessWDUN Staff

BUFORD, Ga. — For the first time since 2021 the Buford girls are back in the Final Four.

Evany Torres and Sabrie Vargas each scored a goal as the No. 1-ranked Lady Wolves beat No. 6 Hillgrove 2-0 at home on Monday.

It's first trip to the semifinals for Buford (19-0-1) since making the Class 6A semifinals in 2021.

It was a physical game throughout but Buford coach Megan Hill said the game plan was a simple one.

"(The plan) was to hopefully keep possession in their part of the field. If we can keep possession and we can and be dynamic up front, good things will happen," Hill said. "And that's what we did."

The Lady Wolves don't need much offense, as they have allowed just two goals on the season and none so far in the playoffs.

Vargas said they have grown accustomed to physical games.

"That was one of the harder teams that we have played," Vargas said, "But everybody knows soccer is a contact sport and you're gonna get pushed around here or there."

Next up for Buford will be Walton, the 2023 Class 7A state runner-up, on Thursday at home.

"We're going to practice a lot. We're gonna eat, drink lots of water and we're just gonna be ready for the next game," Vargas said.
