Similar to a fireworks display to honor our nation's independence on July 4th, gas prices throughout Georgia are shooting upward this week.
AAA of Georgia's website shows the average price for unleaded regular gasoline has risen 5 cents per gallon from one week ago, to a rate of $3.31 per gallon. That is also 9 cents higher than exactly one year ago at this time but it remains 6 cents lower than one month ago across the Peach State.
Montrae Waiters of AAA says, "The increase in crude oil prices continues to be the major culprit for the escalation at the pump. Over 2 million Georgians are anticipated to hit the road for the July 4th holiday. Increased demand may also influence demand may also influence an uptick in prices this week."
Hall County is seeing an average price for unleaded regular gasoline hovering at around $3.29 per gallon, with the lowest average price per gallon in northeast Georgia found in Stephens County at $3.16 per gallon.
The highest average price in the area can be found in Forsyth County at more than $3.35 per gallon.
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has increased by 5 cents to $3.49, as of Monday morning. This occurs as the cost of oil crossed the $80 per barrel mark worldwide this week.
