By AccessWDUN Staff

MOUNT AIRY, Ga. — Gainesville opened its season with a thrilling 4-3 win over Habersham Central on Tuesday.

The win for the Red Elephants (1-0) avenged a pair of losses to the Raiders (0-1) in 2024 when both were the old Region 8-6A. Habersham won the region title in 2024.

For Gainesville, Danny Galaviz recorded a brace while Gabriel Ixcoy and Abraham Vazquez each found the net once. Christian Perez had one assist for the Red Elephants.

Gainesville next will have its home-opener on Friday against North Forsyth.

The War Eagles hung on to beat the Class 6A Indians at the Lynn Cottrell Complex on Tuesday.

Carter Bennett scored in the fifth minute on a header off a beautiful cross from Denny Zamudio. It stayed that way late into the second half and War Eagles’ keeper Ryan Woodward kept them in the lead with 6 saves on the night.

Isaiah Diaz sealed with a goal with 8 minutes left on a free kick by Diego Esquivel.

Chestatee next will play host to Madison County on Friday.
