Girls soccer: Branch rallies to beat Winder-Barrow in a thriller

WINDER, Ga. — The Flowery Branch girls got their first win of the season in dramatic fashion on Tuesday, taking a 2-1 win over Winder-Barrow in penalty kicks on the road.

The Lady Falcons (1-1) also scored in the final minute of regulation to tie the match and send it to overtime. Neither team scored in the overtime moving on to the penalty kick stage.

In the PKs, Branch won 2-1 in penalties with Isabelle Le and Halle Katchur converting their kicks. Branch goalkeeper Angela Reyes made saves on 3 of the 4 missed penalties by Winder-Barrow

The Lady Bulldoggs (0-2) scored in the 18th minute of the first half to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. It remained that way until the waning seconds.

Flowery Branch's Katie Wilsey drew a penalty in the box and Katchur converted the PK to tie the match.

Branch outshot Winder 12-3 and had 5 corners to Winder’s 1 for the game.
